Overview
Johnston County Area Transit System (JCATS)

JCATS is a private non-profit transportation system established in 1995 and managed by Johnston County Council on Aging. JCATS was formed when NCDOT required consolidation of county transportation services. Prior to this, county agencies such as DSS and COA, provided their own transportation. JCATS is governed by 2 boards: the Council on Aging Governing Board and the Coordinated Transportation System Advisory Board. Members include community representatives from county agencies, elected officials, and the general public.

The Goal of the Johnston County Area Transit System is to be ...

The premier provider of transportation
services within Johnston County and to destinations outside of
Johnston County, meeting the transportation needs of the elderly,
disabled, and of the general population.

So...How does it all work?

JCATS operates 24 buses and vans which are ADA compliant to assist those with specialized needs. Sixteen of these vehicles are wheelchair accessible.
